About YLAC:

Founded by Harvard and Oxford alumni in 2016, Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC) aims to increase the participation of young people in the democratic process and build their capacity to lead change. Their interventions are designed to equip citizens with a better understanding of the society they live in and the challenges that it confronts.

About the Program:

The Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC) High School Achievers program is a summer boot camp. Designed as a mix of exercises, lectures, group work, and field visits, the program presents a unique platform for students to develop their critical thinking skills and hone their leadership potential.

The program is highly selective and receives a large number of outstanding applications from a diverse pool of candidates.

Sessions engage students in intriguing debates and help explore the interconnected nature of knowledge, all the while using a participatory and experiential pedagogy that makes learning fun.

Eligibility:
  • Students studying in Class 9 to Class 12 and are no more than 18 years of age.
  • Students who are moving into Class 9 or those who have just completed their Class 12 exams are also eligible.
Program Details:

The program is divided into two modules:

Module I (YLAC sessions) and Module II (live NGO project supervised by YLAC). Depending on the modules being offered in a city, candidates can opt for either Module I or Module I and II together.

Bengaluru: (May 2019, Module 1 only).

Location:

The program will run from May 5-12 at the new building of the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) in Domlur.

Important Dates:
  • First deadline: February 24, 2019 (Sunday).
  • Second (Scholarships) Deadline: March 17, 2019 (Sunday).
  • Final deadline: April 7, 2019 (Sunday).
Program Fee:

Rs. 20,000 per participant (excluding GST @18%).

Delhi: (June 2019, Module 1 and 2).

Location:
  • Module I sessions – Zorba the Buddha on the Mehrauli Gurgaon Road.
  • Module II sessions – At a co-working venue in South Delhi, with some travel for field visits.

Interested candidates can opt for either Module I or Module I and II together.

Important Dates:
  • First deadline: February 28, 2019 (Thursday).
  • Second (Scholarships) deadline: March 31, 2019 (Sunday).
  • Final deadline: April 30, 2019 (Tuesday).

Program Fee:

  • Module I (YLAC sessions only):  Rs. 22,000 (+ GST @18%)
  • Module I and II (YLAC sessions and live project):  Rs. 32,000 (+ GST @18%)

Mumbai: May (Module I only), June-July (Module I & II).

Location:
  • Module I sessions – Victoria Memorial School (VMSB) in Tardeo.
  • Module II sessions –  Garage co-working in Lower Parel, with some travel for field visits.

Interested candidates can opt for either Module I or Module I and II together.

Important Dates:
  • First deadline: February 24, 2019 (Sunday).
  • Second (Scholarships) deadline: March 17, 2019 (Sunday).
  • Final deadline: April 7, 2019 (Sunday).
Program Fee:
  • Module I (YLAC sessions only):  Rs. 22,000 (+ GST @18%).
  • Module I and II (YLAC sessions and live project):  Rs. 34,000 (+ GST @18%).

Scholarship:

All deserving candidates may not have the means to fund their participation in the program. To support such candidates, YLAC will offer need and merit-based scholarships. Scholarship amounts will range between 25% and 75% of the total program fee.
