The Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar is organizing a two-day Webinar on The Standard Model & Beyond from December 7 to 8, 2020.
Assam University is a teaching-cum-affiliating Central University in Silchar, Assam, India. The Governor of Assam is the Chief Rector, Gulzar is the Chancellor and the President of India is acting as the Visitor of the University. It has been accredited ‘B+’ grade by NAAC.
Our best understanding of The building blocks of matter and three of the forces binding them are related to each other is encapsulated in the Standard Model of particle physics. But even though the Standard Model is currently the best description of the subatomic world, it does not explain the complete picture. The theory incorporates only three out of the four fundamental forces, omitting gravity.
There are also important questions yet to be answered, such as “Why are there three generations of quarks and leptons with such a different mass scale?”, “ How the neutrinos acquire mass? “What is dark matter?”, or “What happened to the antimatter after the big bang?”, and more.
In this webinar, the experts will throw light on different aspects of the standard model, different unanswered issues, and also on developments of theories/ models beyond the standard model.
