About the Webinar
The Webinar on the Role of Medical and Media Ethics: Ancient and Contemporary Perspectives is organised by the Department of Philosophy, Diamond Harbour Women’s’ University, West Bengal on August 1, 2020 at 12:00 Noon.
Ethics, as a branch of Philosophy is a systematic study of those principles and values that guide and evaluate voluntary human actions and behaviour with regard to their judgments of what is ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ in their personal and social life.
Medical and media ethics are parts of applied ethics. Medical ethics is concerned with the application of specific ethical principles with regard to medical issues like duties of a physician, patient-physician relationship, etc. Media ethics defines and deals with the ethical codes and conducts that the various mass medias and the journalists should abide by.
In the present pandemic situation when the entire world is faced with the continuous threat of disease and death, there the medical practitioners healing people‘s lives and the mass media creating moral and social awareness are playing very important roles.
The present webinar would focus upon the ethical significance of such roles played by the physicians and the journalists in our lives, from the ancient and contemporary perspectives.
