About the Webinar
Municipal Solid Waste Management is one of the biggest challenges India faces today, not only due to environmental and aesthetic impact but also the potential threat to public health resulting from improper management and non scientific handling of Municipal Solid Waste.
The issue is further aggravated owing to the fast pace of Urbanization, improved Standard of Living, Population Growth and Economic Development. Managing Solid Waste is the responsibility of each one of us. The per capita waste generation in Indian cities range between 200 grams and 600 grams per day. The Solid Waste Management presents complex technical challenges. Proper solid waste collection is important reason for the protection of public health, safety and environmental quality.
Improper disposal of municipal solid waste can cause air, surface water and groundwater pollution and create unsanitary conditions, and these conditions in turn can lead to outbreaks of vector-borne disease, that is, diseases spread by rodents, flies and mosquitoes. Rotting garbage is also known to produce harmful gases that mix with the air and can cause breathing problems in people.
