The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad is organizing a Webinar on Fiscal Dominance: A Theory of Everything in India on August 5, 2020, from 6:30 PM onwards.
The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is a public business school located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The school has been accorded the status of an Institute of National Importance by the Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India in 2017.
The topics covered in the session include:
- Restoring financial stability-Resolution of non-performing assets and under-capitalized banks;
- Improving information infrastructure-Setting up a Public Credit Registry;
- Establishing viable capital markets to improve monetary policy transmission and external sector resilience; and,
- Aspiring for the right balance between the government, the central bank, and the markets.
The webinar will be hosted by Professor Viral V. Acharya, who is a C V Starr Professor of Economics at the Department of Finance and has served as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 23rd January 2017 to 23rd July 2020. He will share his experiences as a central banker as reflected in his recent book “Quest for Restoring Financial Stability in India”, SAGE Publishing.
Dr. Acharya will offer perspectives on the causes, consequences, and remedies of the increasing dominance of the financial sector and central banking outcomes by India’s growing fiscal deficit.
