About the Webinar
FICCI’s initiative in the form of “Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy (CASCADE)”, is a dedicated forum on the agenda of smuggling and counterfeiting.
The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the dangers posed by illicit trade. It calls for a greater focus on addressing the growing hazards of counterfeiting and smuggling which are severely impacting the economy and endangering the lives of consumers.
While the Indian government is continuously intensifying efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus by enacting various measures to support public health systems, safeguard the economy and ensure the safety of its citizens, illegal operators are taking full advantage of the pandemic. They will use shortages in the supply of goods to increasingly provide illicit alternatives both online and offline. The current situation which is already witnessing severe socio-economic distress, sale of fake and smuggled goods will only worsen the problem.
With the above background-CASCADE, as a part of its objective to increase awareness about the growing menace of counterfeiting and smuggling, is organizing a Webinar on ‘Combating Counterfeiting and Smuggling during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond’ on Wednesday 29th July 2020 from 2 pm to 3 pm.
The webinar will elicit a response from the State Government and invite representations from customs, police, industry, and other stakeholders to discuss and deliberate:
- Industry issues in tackling the flow of illicit products during the current crisis
- Need for being vocal for local to deter cross border illicit trade
- The role of government and enforcement agencies to thwart criminals who are cashing in during the crisis
- Areas of concern in consumer safety and brand protection.
