About the Organisation

Adhyayan Foundation for Policy and Research

Adhyayan Foundation for Policy & Research (AFPR) is an independent not for profit, research and educational organization dedicated to producing quality research to help in the formulation, assessment, and implementation of public policies.

The organizations aim at covering a wide range of issues that are of significance to this country from economy to administrative efficiency and from legal lacunae to international affairs. They strive towards bridging the gap in policymaking for the wholesome growth and development of our country.

About the Project

Project Rajaswala

In India, the issue of menstruation is hidden under the garb of taboos, misconceptions, and ignorance of scientific facts and hygienic health practices. What complicates the situation further is the fact of limited access to products for sanitary hygiene, and lack of safe sanitary facilities.

This, coupled with the imposition of severe socio-cultural restrictions on women and adolescent girls become barriers to mobility and increases the likelihood of resorting to unhygienic practices to manage menstruation. Such practices offer little to no protection and have long term implications for reproductive health.

Many girls also face stress and depression due to psychological and behavioral changes during menstruation. So, it is imperative to educate not just the pink gender but the society at large about menstruation, uprooting the social taboo juxtaposing menstruation. Therefore ‘Rajaswala’ seeks to analyse the current framework regulating menstrual health management in the nation, suggests areas of improvement, and focuses on what the Foundation itself can do in this regard.

“Project Rajaswala” is a drive to share knowledge and spread awareness about the issues surrounding menstruation. The Project has been envisioned as a programme including social media campaigns, webinar sessions, workshops, and sanitary kit distribution drives.

It seeks to reach out to young girls and various stakeholders via multiple platforms, providing them with a forum to learn about menstrual hygiene management and share their own experiences about menstrual taboos, choices, and practices and consequently uplift the disenfranchised women at the grassroots level.
