University of Calcutta PhD Programme in Education: Apply by March 17

The Department of Education, University of Calcutta invites applications for admission to the PhD programme in Education.

Candidates should have Master’s Degree in Education/M.Ed. with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade B+ in the UGC 7 point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.

A relaxation of 5% marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled.

Applications can be downloaded from C.U.’s official website www.caluniv.ac.in and are to be submitted along with an application fee of Rs. 100/- (by cash ) through a challan obtainable from the Cash counter, Alipur Campus.

The filled up forms along with the requisite fee by C.U. Challan are to be submitted between 12.00 and 2.30 pm. on all working days at the office of the Department of Education (3rd floor ), Alipur Campus, C.U.

Eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of 2 (two) hours duration to be held on 04.04.2017 at 12.00 Noon.

The list of successful candidates for interview will be displayed on the notice board of the Department on 07.04.2017.

They will have to appear at an interview on 11.4.2017 (Exempted category) and 12.4.2017 (Test Category).

Those candidates who have already passed U.G.C. /CSIR(JRF) examinations/ NET/SET/SLET/ M.Phil./ Teacher Fellow in Education need not appear at the written examination and can directly apply to appear at the interview.

Entrance Test will comprise of items from

  • Philosophical Foundation of Education.
  • Psychological Foundation of Education.
  • Sociological Foundation of Education.
  • Research Methodology including statistical application of data.
  • Writing a research/ project proposal.

Type of question: 45 multiple choice questions of 2 marks each = 90 marks.

Writing a research/ project proposal = 10 marks

Qualifying marks for the Admission Test is 50%.
