“The more governments, UN agencies, organizations, businesses, and civil society understand risk and vulnerability the better equipped they will be to mitigate disasters when they strike and save more lives“ -Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General. Extreme events are events that have extreme values of certain important meteorological variables.

Damage is often caused by extreme values of certain meteorological variables such as large amounts of precipitation (e.g., floods), high wind speeds (e.g., cyclones), high temperatures (e.g., heat waves), sudden and violent shaking (Earthquakes), etc. A disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society and causes human, material, and economic or environmental losses.

The project aims to build capacity by imparting training on “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation” with a focus on various components like sustainable habitat, green building, disaster risk reduction and management, and socio-economic vulnerability and livelihood. Under this project, VNIT Nagpur will be conducting ten training courses during 2017-20.

Who can Attend?

The course is designed for practicing architects, civil engineers, structural engineers (private and public sectors), officials in SDMA, DDMA, NDMA, Urban local bodies, Zilla Parishad, Town Planning authority, Real Estate Developers, etc. The participants are recommended to bring their laptop for hands-on training sessions

Resource Person

The lectures will be delivered by the experienced faculty from VNIT, Nagpur and outside experts from IIITs, NITs, SPAs, and Practicing Architect, Planners from industries.
