The internship is in the Social Media Section of the News and Media Division of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for social media activities of the Department of Global Communications and the integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr and YouTube, which are critical component of the Department’s communications.

The internship is located in the UN information Centre in New Delhi and the selected candidate would report directly to the Social Media Section, of the Department of Global Communications in New York and to UNIC New Delhi.

The internship is for three (3) months starting from April 2019 with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the Division and availability of the candidate.

The internship is unpaid and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
  1. Applicants must:

    (a) be enrolled in a communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, journalism, or related field graduate programme; or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, journalism, or related field bachelor’s degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree in communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, journalism, or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

  2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
  3. Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
  4. English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English and Hindi is required.
