The Mathematics Department along with the Mathematics Society of St. Stephen’s College is devoted to pursuing activities aimed at fostering interest in and creative expression of mathematical ideas.
In the past, they have held talks by eminent mathematicians, organized discussions and released publications which enriches students by exposing them to various areas of Mathematics outside of their curriculum and promotes research.
St. Stephen’s College is holding a Symposium on Algebra and its Applications on the 22nd and 23rd of March, 2018.
This Symposium would see an audience comprising of undergraduate students from different colleges/institutions from around Delhi-NCR. It is an event that will be held on a grand scale, over a period of two days in which four eminent scholars will deliver talks related to their topics of expertise. In the past few years we have successfully organised Symposiums on Applied Mathematics and Group Theory.
The Symposium will focus on some prominent areas in Algebra such as Number Theory and Cryptography, Fermat’s Last Theorem for Regular Primes, Application of matrix groups to primes, and Error Coding.
1. Dr. Geetha Venkataraman (School of Liberal Studies, Ambedkar University)
2. Dr. Amitabha Tripathi (Department of Mathematics, IIT Delhi)
3. Dr. Vijay M. Patankar (School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University)
4. Dr. Sanjeev Agarwal (Department of Mathematics, Shiv Nadar University)
The prime objective of the Symposium is to explore the importance, difficulties, and challenges of the aforementioned topics in our everyday lives.
Students from all institutions are invited apply for the Symposium. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come- first-served basis.
