Education and health are the two pillars of human resource development of a nation. In a country like India this is particularly true. In an environment of growing population, gender and socio-economic inequality and deep-set social prejudices, education can be the instrument for liberation from ignorance, oppression and poverty. It is basic to the social and economic development of the country.
The orphaned and destitute comprise one of the most vulnerable sections of society. Even if they are cared for as children, they will generally miss the opportunity of receiving an education due to various reasons including lack of resources and appropriate and timely guidance.
Thus, their misery and suffering, coupled with social discrimination, make it impossible for them to break the vicious cycle of poverty, ignorance and the lack of education. While several governmental and non-governmental agencies address the welfare and early education needs of this disadvantaged stratum of society, there is a serious deficit in the support system to guide them through the mire when it comes to higher or professional education. Hence, a large number of them are drop-outs of school or fail to benefit from college and university education.
The Digjyoti Educational Trust is being instituted with the objectives set forth in The Trust section. It has been registered as a charitable and non-profit making institution under the provision of the Indian Trust Act.
