Symbhav XThe decennial edition of Symbhav, Pune’s most-awaited fest is just around the corner. The 10th edition of Symbhav is set to drop its anchor on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of February, 2018, at the New Viman Nagar Campus of Symbiosis Law School, Pune.

The fest will host a diverse range of exciting events including our newest addition: Sportify! (Online Sports Essay Competition).

Topics for Essay 

Topics

1) Paris Saint Germans (PSG) is looking good to conquer European football. After Neymar it is evident that they are all for breaking other European Giant clubs. Cristiano Ronaldo is already looking unhappy at Real Madrid. In this context assume the role of Jorge Mendes, world’s most powerful agent representing Cristiano Ronaldo giving a convincing deal for Ronaldo’s transfer to PSG. Use your fantasy premier league expertise.

  • The essay can include the perspectives of the players raised in various news articles to back the deal.
  • You can name a price justifying the same.
  • Keep in mind the basic applicable rules for a legitimate transfer (Carries a lot of marks).

2) Psychological and physiological aspects of doping in sports.

  • The essay can include arguments for and against the use of drugs when administered in proper amounts.
  • Examples of various athletes found using the same.
  • Method of detection
  • Overall impact on any given sport

3) DuckWorth- Lewis method. Is it completely fair?

  • The essay can include a brief explanation of the mathematics behind it.
  • What side does it benefit and how?
  • Controversies given out by the method.

4) Gender Discrimination in sports and how to curb it.

  • Is the Government of India doing its part?
  • Is it the viewership that lacks when it comes to women’s games?
  • A sociological view for the issue raised by the topic is welcome.

Rules

Eligibility: Anyone!

  1. Maximum of two authors allowed per entry of essay.
  2. Open for all and not just college students.
  3. A confirmation of participation to sent at sports@symlaw.ac.in, after which the mode of payment for registration (Rs 100) shall be communicated.
  4. The mail mentioned in (2) shall include name/s of the authors, name of the college (if any) and the topic chosen.
  5. The last date for confirming the participation is 23rd February, 2018.
  6. The last date to submit the entries is 23rd February, 2018.
  7. The final essays should be mailed at sports@symlaw.ac.in.
  8. The winners will be decided by 25th February, 2018.
  9. The winners will be communicated via email about their price money and the procedures connected therewith.
  10. The word limit for the essay shall be 4000 words (excluding footnotes, if any).
  11. Font Type and size for essay: Times New Roman-12.
  12. Line Spacing for the essay: 1.5
  13. Uniform citation should be followed throughout the essay if one is using footnotes.

Prizes

  • First Place: Trophy, Medal and cash prize of Rs 4000/-
  • Second Place: Medal and cash prize of Rs 2000/-
  • Top 10 entries will be given a certificate of merit for their participation.
