About the Institute:
The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is a binational organization that promotes understanding between India and Canada through academic activities and exchanges. The Shastri Institute is funded by and partners closely with government bodies in both India and Canada. The Institute aims to achieve gender equality and reduce poverty by focusing programming on sustainable development and other United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

1. Shastri Research Grant 2017-18:

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for Shastri Research Grants 2017-18 from the faculty members/academics from SICI’s Canadian and Indian Member Institutions in good standing.
The key objective of SRG are to support new or ongoing research collaborations between SICI’s Canadian and Indian member institutions that promote mobility and capacity building among faculty members and researchers.
The research projects conducted in all disciplines of study supported by our member universities ranging from Social Sciences and Humanities to STEM (sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics), business, management, etc. are eligible for seeking funds from this and all other SICI programs.
Value:
CAD$ 5,000/per project

Duration:
The grant must be fully utilized within the period from 1 November 2017 to 31 May 2018.
Eligibility:

  1. Proposed SRG projects must involve a bi-national research initiative that addresses issues of relevance to India and/or Canada.
  2. Full time Faculty members of Canadian and Indian member institutions are eligible to apply for this grant. A list of SICI member institution is available here: http://sici.org/about/members/
  3. The Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or India.
  4. Preference will be given to applications that involve young faculty/research scholars and students (undergraduate, graduate) in the proposed project.

2. Shastri Programme Development Grant 2017-18

The Shastri Programme Development Grant  is devised in order to encourage scholarly and professional academic activities with a view to contributing to the expansion of knowledge about India or Canada at Indian/Canadian universities that are member of the Shastri Institute.
Among the activities included for grant consideration are conferences, symposia, workshops, lecture series. Applications are especially encouraged for innovative ideas and activities encompassing different pedagogy involving youth of India and Canada that is likely to promote or expand knowledge about India or Canada.
Eligibility:

  1. Applications under this grant programme may be made by universities interested in the development or expansion of programmes on India or Canada.
  2. Applications for long-term programme development proposals spanning more than one year are also encouraged, although they must be resubmitted annually for funding for each subsequent year.

3. Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grant

The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grants 2017-18 from SICI’s Canadian and Indian Member Institutions in good standing.
SSTSG assists faculty members, doctoral or post-doctoral students, with travel subsidies to participate in conferences, workshops, seminars and academic meetings in partner countries (India or Canada) that are intended to establish institutional and scholarly linkages.
Value:

  • CAD$1,000 (to support the scholar’s international economy class airfare).
  • Associated costs related to visas, meals, per diem and accommodation are not eligible under this grant.

10 (ten)
Eligibility:

  1. Applicant must be a full time faculty member/researcher/student (doctoral and post-doctoral) of SICI’s Canadian or Indian Members Council Institution (in good standing in 2017-18). For a current list of member institutions please click here: (http://www.sici.org/about/members/).
  2. Grants to be used for Canadian scholar’s travel to India or Indian scholar’s travel to Canada.
  3. For institutional visits applicant must have been invited by an academic institution (which may or may not be a SICI member institution) in Canada or in India.
  4. For other visits related to the participation in conferences/workshops/seminars, the applicant’s paper must have been accepted for presentation by the organizing committee of the conference or the host institution.
  5. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of India or Canada.
