Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) is an institute of higher learning in Kolkata, India. Established in 1876 by Mahendra Lal Sarkar, a private medical practitioner, it focuses on fundamental research in basic sciences. It is India’s oldest research institute Located at Jadavpur, South Kolkata beside Jadavpur University, Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute and Indian Institute of Chemical Biology it is spread over a limited area of 9.5 acres. In May 2018, the Ministry of Human Resource Development announced that IACS had been granted the status of Deemed University under De-novo Category under section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act 1956.

A Walk in Interview for the appointment of Research Associate-I in the School of Chemical Sciences, IACS will be conducted on September 16, 2019.

A candidate should have a first or high second class M. Sc. degree in Chemistry with a minimum average of 55% marks in B.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc. examination along with a good overall academic record and has obtained a Ph.D. with research experience supported by publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of spectroscopy/biophysical.


2 years from the date of joining as RA-I, subject to an evaluation after six months/one year as per the rules of the Institute.

  • The position is purely temporary, and the candidate will not have any right to claim (explicit or implicit) to any permanent post in the Institute. No TA will be admissible for attending the interview.
