The Centre for Sociology and Social Anthropology (TISS Guwahati) seek Research Assistant for a research project titled ‘Seasonal Migrants and Adaptation: A Study of Kashmiri Muslim Handicraft Merchants in Guwahati, Assam.’ The project focuses on dimensions of migration, work and cultural interactions especially of Kashmiri handicraft migrants in Guwahati.
Internal migration is mostly due to an economic necessity which propel people to go out of their hometown to new places. This research will explore the nuanced understanding of migrant’s experiences with regard to the socio-cultural, economic and political interactions with the host population.
The project will be confined to Sociology and Social Anthropology. Interested applicants need to have one of the following qualification: An M.A or an M.Phil. with research interests in the themes of migration and cultural studies.
The work engagement would include data collection, data analysis, report writing, and project management related activities. Fluency of not only English (written) but also Hindi/Urdu (oral) will be preferred. Please note that the intern will receive a certificate of experience only after the successful completion of the work after four months.
