The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a Centre of Excellence under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of Ornitholothegy and Natural History. SACON wishes to engage research personnel (Indian National only) for the following research projects through a Walk-in-interview to be held on 21.01.2020.

Post Details
1. Junior Research Biologist (01)
Project Title

Spatial mapping of the landscape under the GoI-GEF-UNDP India High Range Mountain Landscape Project, Munnar, Kerala.

Qualifications
  • Masters’ Degree (MSc/M Tech) in Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing/ Geoinformatics/Spatial Technology or MSc/MA in Geography with PG Diploma in Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing from a recognized University with a minimum 55% marks or above.
  • Knowledge/work experience in high resolution remote sensing data and research projects on Natural Resource Management, Forestry or Environmental Sciences and willingness to work in hilly terrain;
Salary

Rs. 31,000/- per month plus HRA (for the NET qualified candidates) or 25,000/per month plus HRA (for the non-NET qualified candidates).

2. Junior Research Biologist (01)
Project Title

Developing a conservation action plan for Forest Owlet (Heteroglauxblewitti), a Critically Endangered species endemic to central India.

Qualifications
  1. Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Wildlife/Ecology/Life Sciences from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% or above;
  2. Familiarity with molecular tools and laboratory work specially related to Next Generation Sequencing Techniques.
  3. Knowledge of wildlife biology or Conservation Science.
Salary

Rs. 25,000/- per month plus HRA as applicable

3. Senior Research Biologist (01)
Project Title

Population status and post-sterilization behavior of rhesus macaque Macaca mullata in Himachal Pradesh.

Qualifications
  • Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Science / Wildlife Biology/ Life Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above and  two years of research experience in relevant field with proven records of data analysis and scientific publications;
  • Working knowledge of statistical modeling, data analysis and GIS
Salary

Rs. 35,000/per month plus HRA as applicable.

4. Junior Research Biologist (01)
Project Title

Population status and post-sterilization behavior of rhesus macaque Macaca mullata in Himachal Pradesh.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 55% marks in Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Science/Ecology/Biodiversity Science/Environmental Science/ Environmental Management/Life Sciences with a minimum of 55% or above from a recognized University.
  • Knowledge/work experience in animal behavior studies
Salary

Rs. 31,000/ per month plus HRA as applicable;

5. Senior Research Fellow (01)
Project Title

Population status and post-sterilization behavior of rhesus macaque Macaca mullata in Himachal Pradesh.

Qualifications
  • Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science/Life Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above and two years of research experience in the field of wildlife.
  • Research experience on birds.
Salary

Rs. 28,000/- per month plus HRA as applicable;

6. Junior Research Fellow (01)
Project Title

Ecological assessment of endemic and threatened laughing thrushes of the Western Ghats to develop a conservation plan for securing their population and habitats.

Qualifications
  • Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Science / Wildlife Biology/ Environmental Science/Life Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above;
  • Research experience on birds;
Salary

Rs. 25,000/- per month plus HRA as applicable;

7. Senior Research Biologist (01)
Project Title

Population Status, Ecology, and Conservation of the Indian Swiftlet Aerodramus unicolor in the Western Ghats, West Coast and Offshore Islands of Maharashtra.

Qualifications
  • Masters’ Degree (M.Sc.) in Zoology/Wildlife Sciences/Wildlife Conservation/ Environmental Sciences/ Life Sciences or any other related subjects from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above and two years research experience in the relevant field.
  • Work experience in caves and cave-dwelling birds or mammals; knowledge on ecological research methods, data processing and interpretation of results.
  • Candidates having prior experience of working in cave habitat will be preferred;
  • Proficiency in the local language (Marathi);
Salary

Rs. 33,000 (consolidated) per month;

Instructions
  • The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the walk-in-interview to be held at SACON, Moongilpallam, Anaikatty, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on 21.01.2020.
  • The selected candidates will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against the advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at the sole discretion of the Centre and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
  • Candidates should report to the venue at 09.00 am on the interview day.
