Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, formerly University of Roorkee and Thomason College of Civil Engineering, is a public engineering university located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. Established in 1847 in British India by the then lieutenant governor, Sir James Thomason, it is the oldest technical institution in Asia. It was given university status in 1949 and was converted into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2001, thus becoming the seventh IIT to be declared.

1. Post-Doctoral Fellowship under project focused on “Study of thermospheric and mesospheric cooling by Nitric Oxide radiative emissions”

The Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee invites applications from outstanding and enthusiastic researchers for postdoctoral position under the mentorship of Dr M.V. Sunil Krishna.

The prospective candidate is expected to have a strong background in the area of Atmospheric and Space Physics especially related to the space weather, mesospheric and thermospheric structure, dynamics and processes. Knowledge of data analysis methods, numerical and analytical modelling techniques with a strong programming background are essential. Prior experience on working with global atmospheric models such as TIE-GCM, WACCM-X, CESM will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum Qualification and Experience: PhD in Physics/Atmospheric Physics/Space Physics / Computational Physics / Meteorology.
  • Duration: The duration of the fellowship will be of two years extendable to one more year, if necessary. The candidate is expected to join the Department as soon as offer letter has been released.
  • Fellowship Amount: The fellow will receive a consolidated fellowship as below in addition to the contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/-per annum.
    • First two years: Rs. 55,000/- per month
    • Third-year: Rs. 60,000/- per month

2. Post-Doctoral Fellowship under project focused on “Nitrogen-enriched hybrid nanoporous materials for CO2 utilization”

The Department of chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee invites applications from outstanding and enthusiastic researchers for postdoctoral position under the mentorship of Dr Paritosh Mohanty. The prospective candidate is expected to have a strong background in materials chemistry, synthesis of nanomaterials and polymers, catalysis.

  • Essential Qualifications: The prospective candidate should have a PhD in chemistry/chemical Sciences from a reputed institute with good academic credentials. It is essential that the applicant has experience of materials synthesis and catalysis.
  • Desirable Qualifications: It is desirable that the applicant is familiar with the synthesis and characterization of catalysts’ Ireterogeneous catalysis and good scientific manuscript writing skills.
  • Duration: The duration of the fellowship will be of one year six months extendable to one more year, if necessary. The candidate is expected to join the Department as soon as offer letter has been released.
  • Fellowship Amount: The fellow will also receive a consolidated fellowship as below in addition to the contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/- per annum.
    • First and Second Year: Rs. 55,000/- per month
    • Third-year: Rs. 60,000/- per month
    • Contingency: Rs. 50,000/- per annum
