The Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee invites applications from outstanding and enthusiastic researchers for postdoctoral position under the mentorship of Prof. Sumanta Sarkhel focused on “Investigation of Earth’s Upper Atmosphere using Optical Imaging Techniques”.
The prospective candidate is expected to have a strong background in the area of Atmospheric/Space Physics specially related to Space Weather and Earth’s Ionosphere. Prior experience in working with airglow imagers and knowledge of image analyses using MATLAB or IDL will get an added advantage.
The candidate should have experience of working on cutting edge research and must have publications in reputed peer reviewed journals. The selected candidate will work on the newly installed allsky multi-wavelength imaging system (557.7 and 630.0 nm filters) at the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO), Hanle, Leh Ladakh (32.78o N, 78.96o E) for the investigation of the impact of space weather on Earth’s ionosphere.
Ph.D. in Physics/Atmospheric Physics/Space Science Candidates who have recently submitted their thesis are also eligible to apply subject to the condition that they will furnish the proof of the award of Ph.D. degree at the time of interview at IIT Roorkee, if shortlisted.
Duration & Fellowship
The duration of the fellowship is up to 31 December 2021. The fellow will receive a consolidated fellowship of ₹ 55,000/- per month in addition to the contingency grant of ₹ 50,000/-per annum.
