Ph.D. Scholarship: Water for Change
Doctoral Programs at CEPT University, Ahmedabad are calling for motivated and outstanding Ph.D. researchers interested in sustainability transitions and resilience in general and in urban water systems and governance in particular with a passion for linking scientific understanding and insights to policy and practice.
The doctoral researcher will be granted admission in the program as a part of the Water For Change research project and thus connected to an international research consortium on fit-for-purpose water sensitive design for fast-growing livable cities in India. As a part of the doctoral program, the researcher will also engage in other activities in the field of research, education, consultancy and practice for the above project at CWAS and Faculty of Planning, CEPT University.
The successful applicant will have an excellent academic track record, a completed Masters in Planning, and demonstrated academic or professional experience in urban water systems, water and sanitation issues, intersectoral issues in urban water systems. An affinity with sustainability transitions, the concepts of urban water systems and transdisciplinary research.
Ideally, the candidate has first-hand experiences with theories of urban water governance and urban water systems in the planning context. The project requires frequent traveling to Indian case study cities. The candidate should be proficient in English willing to collaborate and travel.
Apart from the research for the project, the candidate must complete the regular requirements as a Ph.D. candidate at CEPT University. The position is open to professionals having experience in relevant field for no less than 18 months and no more than 5 years.
The main objectives of the Ph.D. research position are:
- Developing a conceptual and methodological framework to assess, co-design and strengthen capacities for water sensitive planning and governance in cities
- Analyzing and comparing governance capacities in Indian cities
- Conducting field research and workshops in India and collaborating with other Ph.D. researchers from India
- Publishing research findings in scientific journals, presenting the project at international conferences, cross-fertilizing the results with local and international scholars and practitioners
A cumulative stipend of Rs 35,000/- per month during the coursework (first 2 years of the program) and Rs 40,000/- per month for the research work phase (maximum next 3 years) would be given to the selected candidates against successful completion of the assigned work plan.
Note: Selected candidates are expected to join the doctoral program under this scholarship no later than the first week of January 2020
