Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) offers an integrative approach to address the interrelated challenges of food security, development, and climate change. In 2010, FAO introduced the idea of climate-smart agriculture at the Hague Conference on Agriculture, Food Security, and Climate Change, also abbreviated to CSA. CSA has three main objectives:

  1. Sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes.
  2. Adapting and building resilience to climate change.
  3. Reducing and/or removing greenhouse gas emissions, where possible CSA addresses the challenges of climate change in an integrated way through coordination between different stakeholders and sectors. It optimizes the use of natural resources and ecosystem services.
