The Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu is organizing an Online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Wind Loads on Buildings & Other Structures from December 21 to 26, 2020.
The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) is a public research university located in Jammu, Jammu, and Kashmir, India. As one of India’s premier Indian Institutes of Technology, the university came into existence in 2016 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, was signed.
The proposed Faculty Development Program (FDP) is targeted for Faculty Members of Engineering Institutes at both Degree and Diploma Level in the country as well as the Research Students studying there. The aim of the course is to impart knowledge about the technological advances in the area of Wind Resistance Design of Structures with
special reference to IS:875 Part-3.
After attending the course, the participants will gain confidence in designing buildings and other structures against wind loads. These participants will in turn educate the Engineering Students in the country so that they graduate with the knowledge for the design and construction of wind-resistant structures.
Following topics are likely to be covered during the program:
- Types of Windstorms
- Characteristics of Basic Wind Speed
- Evaluation of Design Wind Speed
- Design Life of Structures
- Effect of Local Topography
- Wind Pressure Coefficients
- Force Coefficients
- Design Wind Pressure
- Design Wind Load
- Effect of Openings
- Interference Effects
- Experimental Studies in Wind Tunnels
- Numerical Problems
Who can Attend?
Faculty Members of Engineering Institutes at both Degree and Diploma Level in the country as well as Research Students studying there can attend.
