The Department of E&C Engg., National Institute of Technology (NIT), Karnataka is organizing an Online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Photonics from February 1 to 5, 2021.

NITK Surathkal is a premier Institute engaged in imparting quality technological education and providing support to research and development activities. NITK is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by an act of Parliament. NITK has carved a niche for itself among the best technical institutes in India. NITK offers 9 UG, 26 PG programs, and Ph.D. programs.

Course Objectives

The objective of the FDP is to provide a platform for bringing together global experts and researchers across India and highlight novel contributions along with various challenges in the field of photonics.


Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Nanophotonics and Bio-photonics
  • Optical Sensors
  • Free Space Optical Communication
  • Nonlinear optical phenomena
  • Plasmonics & Integrated photonics
  • Optical storage devices and imaging
  • Laser Sciences and Ultrafast Optics
  • Microwave Photonics

Lectures will be delivered by the faculties & Scientists from IISc, IITs, RRCATIndore, CSIR, NITK, and Industry experts.

Who can Participate?

The FDP is open to faculties, research scholars, and UG/ PG students of Electronics & Communication Engineering (also related disciplines).


There is no Registration Fee for participants. The registrations will be based on a first-come-first-serve basis.
