The Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering (COE), Pune is organizing a One-week online FDP on “Advances in Earthquake Engineering ” from January 4 to 8, 2021.
The College of Engineering, Pune-5 (COEP) started in 1854 has a rich history in the pursuit of excellence. The hallmark of COEP education is its strong and widespread alumni network, support of the system, and comraderies that the institute shares with several foreign universities. The institute is consistently ranked among the top 50 technical colleges in India and its alumni have contributed a lion’s share in its development of national infrastructure.
The FDP on “Advances in Earthquake Engineering” is an attempt to learn earthquake behavior of different RC and steel structures from several experts in earthquake engineering, structural engineering, and geotechnical engineering. It aims at familiarizing the participants with the analysis and design of RC and steel structures subjected to earthquake ground shaking as per relevant IS codes of practice and guidelines.
The FDP is designed to provide the participants with the following:
- Technical concepts involved in Earthquake Resistant Design of RC and steel structures
- Philosophy and concept of earthquake-resistant design and importance of ductile detailing
- Earthquake Behaviour of RC Buildings – Linear and Nonlinear
- Introduction to Performance-Based Seismic Design
- Seismic design considerations of water tanks
- Seismic design considerations of bridges
- Vibration control techniques.

Who can Attend?
Students, Faculty Members, and Practicing Engineers with a background in structural engineering will be benefitted most by understanding the characteristics of earthquakes, shaking, induced forces, imposed effects, and structural responses, when subjected to strong earthquake ground shaking likely in the high seismic regions.
Eminent speakers from IITs/ NITs and reputed Engineering colleges will conduct the FDP.
There is no registration fee for the course. To register for the course, click here.
The last date to register is December 31, 2020. Shortlisted candidates will be informed through e-mail by 02/01/2021. A digital certificate will be issued by the ATAL Academy to those participants who have attended the program with a minimum of 80% attendance and scored a minimum of 60% marks in the test.
