New America’s Fellows Program invests in thinkers—journalists, scholars, filmmakers, and public policy analysts—who generate big, bold ideas that have an impact and spark new conversations about the most pressing issues of our day.
Fellows advance ideas through research, reporting, analysis, and storytelling. We look for projects, books primarily, that are original and ambitious, with viable plans for their implementation. There is no set template for a successful fellowship project. Some projects focus on furthering a new public policy idea through either a domestic or international lens, while others illuminate longstanding dilemmas of American life from new angles.
Who can Apply
We consider applications from those who may be based abroad for all or part of the year, and we accept applications from non-US citizens.
The important consideration is that no matter where you are based, we expect National Fellows to be involved in the New America community. That may involve traveling to our various offices for events as a speaker or moderator, attending or calling into our Fellows Program sessions, and, otherwise, being engaged in conversations we are having at New America.
New America is headquartered in Washington, DC, but we also have offices in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Indianapolis that can serve as local hubs for Fellows.
