National Language Translation Mission intends to harness natural language technologies to overcome these challenges through the use of an Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Platform / National Public Digital Platform for Language Translation, thereby empowering citizens and achieving the goal of ‘One India’ in the digital landscape and contribute towards ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’.
NLTM intends to create a knowledge-based society by transcending the language barriers and providing the wealth of information available on the internet in all 22 scheduled languages of India, both in the form of speech and text.
Under the Mission, it is also envisaged to build a digital platform serving machine translation system, which can be used to translate text and speech content from one language to another with minimal human involvement. It is also aimed to create and nurture an ecosystem involving start-ups and Central and State Government institutions working together to develop and deploy innovative solutions in Indian languages and stimulate massive public participation.
These efforts may lead India to a Trillion Dollar Digital Economy by 2025 and establish a Digital Bharat, ‘AatmaNirbhar’ Bharat. The proliferation of NLP technology and associated tools will lead to increased employment for small and micro-entrepreneurs, and provide them with an additional source of income.
In view of the above, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, (MeitY) invites citizens to coin a name, suggest a tagline and design a logo for the ICT platform / National Public Digital Platform for Language Translation that is to be developed under NLTM to represent the spirit of the activities as described above.
