The Master’s degree program in Economics (MEcon) provides in-depth theoretical and empirical knowledge in order to analyze the social and economic challenges of our time. The MEcon applications for 2020 autumn session are now open.
MEcon provides you with the necessary tools to analyze economic policy problems using state-of-the-art methods and to develop successful strategies.
Duration & Structure
The icon is designed as a full-time study program for a standard duration of 3 semesters. The study period can be extended up to 8 semesters. In total, you will earn 90 ECTS credits, which are divided into core studies, contextual studies and Master thesis. The program can only be started in the autumn semester.
The MEcon can be studied in a flexible mixture of German and English language. The compulsory courses are taught in English, core electives and independent electives can also be attended in German.
If you have one of the following degrees from a recognized university (not university of applied sciences) or complete one before your chosen degree program starts, then you can apply for this Master’s program:
- University Bachelor’s degree in a similar subject to Economics
A degree is considered to be similar if at least 60 ECTS credit points have been awarded in economic subjects.
- Consecutive university Master’s degree in another discipline
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs must have been completed in the same discipline (consecutively) and amount to at least 270 ECTS credit points together.
It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that your command of the language of instruction is sufficient to allow you to complete your studies successfully. The recommended level at the start of the study is at least C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Every academic year one highly talented MEcon student is awarded a grant offered by the “Starr International Foundation Grant Fund”.
