IIT Indore invites applications from highly motivated, sincere, hardworking and research-oriented candidates for the position of JRF in DBT Sponsored project entitled “Development of Novel Benzo fused Heterocycles to Improve the Treatment of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis”.
Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. This scenario is further worsened due to emergence of multidrug resistant (MDR) and extremely drug resistant (XDR) Mtb strains, which makes most of the anti-TB drugs ineffective. Mtb is also able to form well-structured extracellular matrix called “biofilms”, which is responsible for increased drug tolerance and chronic disease.
Therefore, there is a need to develop new drug targets with potent therapeutic applications against MDR-TB. To address these challenges, we have synthesized novel antibacterial pyridine ring fused heterocycle compounds. We plan to test these compounds against multi-drug resistant Mtb strains under in vitro and in vivo conditions. Using these compounds, we plan to improve MDR and XDR-TB therapy.
M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences/or in equivalent degree with first division as defined by the awarding Institute/University. Student with experience in synthesis of compounds and NET/GATE will be given preference.
The amount of fellowship will be as per DBT norm for a period of One year.
