About:

The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) was established on July 2, 1999 by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi with the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai. The broad objectives of the Institute cover Development of human resources in epidemiology and bio-statistics, Networking of the various ICMR and non-ICMR Institutes at the national level for epidemiological purposes, and Consultancy.

  1. Field Officers (ANM- Auxiliary Nurse Midwife)
  • No. Of Post Four: (2 UR, 2 OBC)
  • Name of the Project: Integrated Road Traffic Injuries Surveillance- India (IRIS- India);
    Chennai.
  • Place of posting: ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai
  • Essential Qualification: 10th pass and certificate course in Auxiliary Nurse midwife (ANM) in Government recognized institute/board.
  • Desirable qualification:
  1. Working experience in a health facility/field data collection
  2. Knowledge of computer applications
  3. Can read, write and speak Tamil and English
  4. Diploma in Auxiliary Nurse Midwife, Diploma in nursing can be treated as 2 years’ experience and considered
  5. B.Sc. degree (Nursing) shall be treated as 3 years’ experience and considered
  • Age
    UR – 25 Years (No age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC Candidates)
    OBC – 28 Years (including 3 Years age relaxation for OBC candidates)
  • Total Salary Rs. 17,000/- per month
  • Nature of Duties
  1. Involve in Field /Facility based data collection in shifts
  2. Patient recruitment enrollment and follow-up
  3.  Travel to field for data collection
  4. Overall responsible for coordination of field- based activities
  5. Any other work assigned by the Director/PI/Co-PI/Superior officer
  • Duration: 1 6 months (Renewable for the project duration subject to performance and
    project requirement)

2. Project Assistants:

  • Name of the Project: Tribal Health Research Unit @ NIE, Chennai
  • Date of Interview: 16.02.2018
  • No. of Post: One (OBC)
  • Salary: Rs. 31,000/- (Consolidated)
  • Type of Appointment: Contractual
  • Place of Posting: Chennai, but work involves extensive travelling in Tamil Nadu and fromtime to time to any part of S. India for field work
  • Essential Qualification: Graduate in Epidemiology or Social Work from a recognised university with three years experience in the area of Health Research in a research
    laboratory from a recogniZed Institute or Masters Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or Social Work
  • Desirable Qualification: A Post Graduate Degree from recognized University with M.Sc Degree in Epidemiology or Public Health or Social Work.
  • Job Responsibilities:
  1. A good team player and a team coordinator
  2. The job involves extensive travel and working with tribals living in mountains and forests for at least 3 weeks per month
  3. Collection of Qualitative data and analyzing the data sets
  4. Writing reports and research papers
  5. Any other work assigned by the Director, NIE or Principal Investigator of the Project.
