About the Japanese MEXT Scholarships

The Embassy of Japan in India invites applications for scholarships from students interested in pursuing Research/Masters/PhD course in Japan.

The fields of study are as given below.

  2. Japan related Social Science
  3. Information Technology
  4. Mathematical Science
  5. Physics
  6. Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
  7. Biology and Biotechnology
  8. Agriculture and Fishery
  9. Environmental Science
  10. Pharmaceutical Science
  11. Geology and Geoinformatics
  12. Civil Engineering
  13. Architecture
  14. Material Science / Engineering
  15. Electrical Engineering
  16. Electronics & Communications Engineering
  17. Mechanical Engineering
  18. Aerospace Engineering
  19. Robotics
Eligibility

For Research Student / Master’s Degree

Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. The candidates should obtain their mark sheet and degree on or before 31st March 2019 for April 2019 batch and 30th September 2019 for October 2019 batch.

For Ph.D. Degree

Master’s degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. Candidate having practical research/teaching/work experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification on or before 31st March 2019 for April 2019 batch and 30th September 2019 for October 2019 batch.

For Research Student/Master’s degree in Japanese Language

a) Students who have completed Bachelor’s degree / Master’s degree course in Japanese Language from a recognized university.

OR

b) Students who have completed Bachelor’s degree course in any subject from a recognized university and obtained N2 Certificate of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conducted by the Japan Foundation.

For Ph.D. degree in Japanese Language

Students who have completed Master degree course in Japanese Language from a recognized university.

Stipend

143,000 Yen/ month (Approx. Rs. 87,000 / month)

Exempted

Airfare

Round-trip airfare will be provided.

The completed application form  mentioning subject Research Student and file name as field of study-name.docx (e.g. physics-amit.docx) should be sent to the Embassy through email as an attachment, by 1st June 2018, positively.

Important Dates
  • Receiving completed applications: 1st June 2018 (Last date)
  • Preliminary Screening: 1st and 2nd week of June 2018
  • Notification of shortlisted candidates for written test/interview (on this page): 15th June 2018 onwards
  • Dates for Written test/interview: 23 June, 24 June, 30 June, 1 July, 2018
