Admissions to PhD and MS by Research can be on Full-Time and Part-Time basis.


A CGPA of 6.0 for General/OBC/EWS (5.50 for SC/ST/PH) on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PH) in aggregate of all the years/semesters of the qualifying exam.

A relaxation of CGPA/Marks to 0.5 or 5% is also available to those with MA Degree in English for PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences.

For admission to full-time programme, qualifying GATE/National Exam is required.

Financial Assistance

PhD Students

First 2 years: Rs. 31,000/- p.m (8 hours of Teaching/Research Assistantship)
Next 3 years: Rs.35,000/- p.m (8 hours of Teaching/Research Assistantship)

MS (R) Students

Students admitted to M.S. (Research) on a full-time basis are considered for the award of Teaching Assistantship under which they will be paid Rs.12,400/- per month and would be required to provide assistance of 8 hours/week to the Department/Centre/School.

Only full-time non-sponsored students who have qualified GATE are eligible for assistantship.

All full-time M.S.(R) students participating in a sponsored project/ consultancy project (in addition to their assistantship work) can be paid an honorarium of uptoRs. 3,000/- p.m. by the PI/CI of the project. All such work can be undertaken only with the consent of their supervisor(s).

Candidates qualified for CSIR JRF will not be allowed to avail fellowship for doing M.S.(R) programme. However, they can avail the CSIR fellowship for doing the Ph.D. programme.
