About the Workshop

Robotics is a multi-disciplinary subject with roots in electronics, computer science and mechanics. Robotics focuses on the process of learning linked with actions. It plays a vital role in engineering education as an interdisciplinary education and intellectual science model. In the last decade, the robotics industry has created millions of jobs and by 2020, robotics will be a $100 billion worth industry.

Mobile robots are robots which have the capability to move around in the environment and are not fixed to one physical location. Mobile robots have become more commonplace in commercial and industrial settings. The components of a mobile robot are a controller, control software, sensors and actuators. The controller is generally a microprocessor, embedded microcontroller or a personal computer (PC). Mobile control software can be either assembly level language or high-level languages such as C or special real-time software. The sensors used are dependent upon the requirements of the robot.

Theme and Topics

This workshop focuses on programming and controlling the Firebird V mobile robot. Firebird V robot has Atmel ATMEGA2560 as Master microcontroller and Atmel ATMEGA8 as Slave microcontroller. ATMEGA2560 microcontroller contains PWM Channels, Inbuilt ADC, SPI, USART, Watchdog timer and RTC etc. These features make it an excellent platform for prototyping and implementing various real time applications. Also the workshop aims to introduce Raspberry Pi architecture and programming for designing robots. Raspberry Pi is a small and affordable computer with powerful ARM processor that can be used to for various applications ranging from robotics to IoT. Eminent resource persons will be handling the sessions.
