The Department of Posts (Philately Division), Ministry of Communications, Government of India is conducting a National Letter Writing Contest under the “Dhai Akhar/Letter Writing Campaign”.
Contest Details:
- The theme of the letter writing campaign will be “Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), you inspire me” and the letter to be written in English/Hindi/Local Language to Bapu or Mahatma Gandhi and may be addressed to the Chief Postmaster General of the respective circles.
- The letter can be written on plain A-4 size paper and will not be more than 100 words or in an Inland Letter Card (ILC) where it will not be more than 500 words.
- The embossed envelope and the Inland Letter Card (ILC) will be the permitted stationery.
- The contest is open to all and includes all age groups.
- The writer of the letter will have to go to the post office and post the letter in a specially designated letter box.

The All-India Best Writers in each category will be given the honorary title of “Patron of Post”. The prize winning letters will be published in important newspapers.
Cash Prizes:
All India:
- First prize: Rs. 50,000/- (Patron of Post)
- Second prize: Rs. 25,000/- (Companion of Post)
- Third prize: Rs. 10,000/- (Post Pal)
Circle level:
- First prize: Rs. 25,000/-
- Second prize: Rs. 10,000/-
- Third prize: Rs. 5,000/-
Note: There are 22 ‘circles’ in India.
Total prize money
All India: Rs. 85,000
Circle level: Rs. 40,000 X 22= Rs. 88,000,0 (8. 8 Lakhs)
The best 3 letters in a circle in each category will be shortlisted and sent to the Directorate. Out of these, the best 3 will be chosen in each of the categories and sent to Sabarmati Ashram by special messenger.
Writers of these letters will be awarded in a function in Sabarmati Ashram on 2nd October 2017, where a letter exhibition will be held.
Each circle will also display 10 best letters in each category in a special philately exhibition that shall be organised during Gandhi Jayanti in Circle Headquarters.

There’s no address, just visit the post office, purchase the envelope and post it in the designated box which is placed in the post office itself.
