Course on Tribology in Machine Elements at IIT Jammu [Dec 9-13]: Register by Nov 25
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Jammu is organizing a short term course on “Tribology in Machine Elements: Fundamentals & Recent Advances” at Jagti campus of IIT Jammu during Dec. 09-13, 2019. The main objective of this STC is to provide a common platform to researchers from industry, R & D organization and academic institutes, who are working on different mechanical systems with huge involvement of tribology. It will make the researchers, academicians and postgraduate students aware of the challenges in the industrial scenarios.
The main focus of this conference will be the involvement of lubrication practices in different machine components viz. bearing, gears, etc. in the present scenario. This workshop will be a great opportunity for networking with eminent personalities and researchers in the field of tribology. Keeping in view the importance of the subject, the course will attract faculty, researchers, and students from traditional tribology backgrounds.
The term “Tribology” coined in 1966 by Prof. Jost, is an interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of interacting surfaces in relative motion. Friction, wear and lubrication are the three main domains of the tribology. As per Prof. Jost’s report, better tribology practices may result in a substantial hike in the GDP of a nation.
