About the Organiser
The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is a public institution established by the government of India in 1951. It is the first of the IITs to be established and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.
About the Course
The Course on Mining Technology, Operations including Safety and Legislation is organised by IIT Kharagpur from Dec 2-6, 2019. Mining is a hazardous occupation. The hazards include roof failure, support failure, slope failure, subsidence, air blast, methane and coal dust explosion, mines fire, inundation, equipment failure, blasting oriented hazards etc. The mining operations have direct implications on the safety, health and well being of the mining personnel and indirectly on the production and productivity of the mines.
Recently mechanization and automation advancement is showing a rising trend right from the mining to the safety areas but at the same time, we can not ignore unscientific mining practices in many underground and opencast mines in India. Recently lots of changes are made in mining technologies and operations. Accordingly, safety and legislation views are also altered.
Dissipation of such knowledge to the mining personnel for both underground and opencast mines are absolutely necessary for their awareness and implementation in their respective mines for achieving higher production and productivity and also to achieve “Zero Accident Potentiality”. Under such a background the Department of Mining Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur designed this one week short term course on Mining Technology, Operations including Safety and Legislation, which tailored to cover up various emerging thrust areas of mining technology, mining operations, accident prevention, safety and related areas as mentioned in the course structure.
This course shall definitely benefit heavily the total mining community as a whole (For both metal and coal mines).
The status of new scientific and modern underground and opencast mining technologies, their operations, safety in mining and future scenario, their various problems, accidents, hazards and their mitigations, safety management system, risk management, adequacy in mining legislation and suggestions, amended legislation, , modern blasting techniques, safety in working environment, accidents, disasters etc.
Executives of all mining and allied industries, DGMS, faculty members of universities, institutions, officers of the Government organization, candidates appearing for First and Second class Mines Managership examinations, etc.
