Mining is a hazardous occupation. The hazards include roof failure, support failure, slope failure, subsidence, air blast, methane and coal dust explosion, mines fire, inundation, equipment failure, blasting oriented hazards, etc.
The mining operations have direct implications on the safety, health and well being of the mining personnel and indirectly on the production and productivity of the mines.
Recently mechanization and automation advancement is showing a rising trend right from the mining to the processing areas but at the same time, we can not ignore unscientific mining practices in many underground and opencast mines in India and also the present density of accidents.
Under such a background the Department of Mining Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur designed this one week short term course on Higher Production and Productivity of Minerals with Safety from Modern Underground and Opencast Mines, which tailored to cover up various emerging thrust areas of mining technology, accident prevention, safety and related areas as mentioned in the course structure.
