Online Course on Corrosion Failure & Protection of Engineering Materials by IIT Kanpur [Mar 1-6]: Registrations Open

About

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur is organizing an Online Course on Corrosion Failure & Protection of Engineering Materials from March 1 to 6, 2021.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (also known as IIT Kanpur or IITK) is a public technical and research university located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was declared to be an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the Institutes of Technology Act.

Highlights

The course will begin with an emphasis on the importance of studying Corrosion of materials. The fundamentals of corrosion will be addressed from the angle of thermodynamics and kinetics of electrochemical phenomena. Different forms of corrosion-related to materials and mixed potential theory will be discussed. Finally, electrochemical ways of protection of metals and alloys will be explained. Moreover, it will also address the practical aspects of corrosion and how to analyze the corrosion test data and subsequent choice of the protection method.

Outcomes

Candidates will learn about the following:

  1. Basic understanding of corrosion and its electrochemical nature
  2. To respond to following question: Is electrochemistry enough for understanding corrosion?
  3. Thermodynamic and kinetic nature of corrosion
  4. Polarization and mixed potential theory
  5. Protection of metals and alloys from corrosion
  6. How to analyze corrosion test data
  7. How to choose protection routes
