About the Course
With the infusion of modern digital technology and ever more powerful computational capabilities, digital manufacturing in the form of Industry 4.0 is emerging through the confluence of data sciences/data analytics, integrated computational materials engineering and advanced additive manufacturing. It is vitally important for the future workforce to understand how modern manufacturing will be done this way across various industry sectors, which will lead to tremendous improvements in productivity and entirely new products, markets and supply chains.
The goal of this program is to provide a foundation of the key principles underlying advanced additive and digital manufacturing to a broad spectrum of researchers, industry practitioners, executives, teachers and students.
i. Understand the fundamentals of additive and digital manufacturing.
ii. Explore the physical principles of various additive and direct digital manufacturing technologies and physics-based models of key processes.
iii. Describe the key principles in selection of materials and processes for given applications and develop cost models.
iv. Understand software issues, and the use of topology optimization and integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) in additive manufacturing.
v. Provide laboratory practice to utilize tools for additive and digital manufacturing.
vi. Review case studies of applications in various industry sectors.
vii. Explore emerging AM technologies, applications, markets and supply chains.
