About the Organiser

The NorthCap University, formerly ITM University, is an autonomous university situated in Sector 23-A, Gurugram, Haryana, India. It was founded in 1996 by Educate India Society, registered under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860 as an Engineering Institute, to provide education in Technical and Management.

About the Conference

School of Law, The NorthCap University (NCU) is organising a conference on “Varying Dimensions of Intellectual Property Rights” on 21 March 2020 at the University (NCU) in association with IP India. The purpose of the conference is engaging in a dialogue on issues concerning the intersections of technological and contemporary issues on intellectual property.

The domain of Intellectual Property (IP) continues to grow exponentially while we advance into the information age and digital technologies. The inclusion of algorithms, digital creations, genes, and even living organisms within this prefecture, is a vast economic reserve that accrues enormous earnings for the media, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and publishing industries, among others.

However, certain questions might commonly be disregarded: how the resources of IP can be used to advance the wellbeing of our communities, nations, and the world at large. Taking into account such apprehensions, this conference intends to put intellectual property into a dialogue with social justice by enquiring how its various areas like patents, trademarks, copyrights, etc. can serve the greater public good in the modern world.

In today’s century ‘Gen-Y’ is considered the key person for laying down a future roadmap for creating, nurturing, building and strengthening creativity and innovation. For them this is an opportunity to engage in academic dialogue with the peers and the faculty. Deviating from merely adhering to an austere legal scholarship, the conference intends to be interdisciplinary – hence presenting an opportunity for the faculty to explore how other disciplines conduct research to create new knowledge and understanding about the dimension of IP, thereby inspiring the next generation of scholars.

The forum shall also be used to advance a deeper understanding among practitioners of IP, academicians, researchers and policy makers about the increasingly important role of social justice in an era of technological progression, under the modern day context. Finally, we hope that this conference will encourage student, scholars, practitioners, academicians and others at all levels to pursue careers in the academic arena.
