About the Seminar

Libraries and Information Centres (LICs) are at the forefront of technology adaptation as well as adaptation, and it is revolutionizing the way information is being accessed and consumed. Information or knowledge has become ubiquitous, universal and is available at awesome convenience – on so many devices and in multiple formats providing a myriad of learning experience.

The world of scholarly and research information to is expanding exponentially and so is the case with social information- thanks to the advancement in computing, communications, content creation/management technologies and the social media/networks. Recent environmental conditions require innovation regarding Sustainable libraries.

Libraries will have to play a role in minimizing negative impact on the natural environment and maximize indoor environmental quality by means of careful site selection, use of natural construction materials and biodegradable products, conservation of resources (water, energy, paper), and responsible waste disposal. ‘Innovation’ only seems to be the primary key with which the unprecedented waves caused by the above turbulences could be contained.

LICs invariably need to address a broad spectrum of users and their characteristics and take them along, on board. Keeping these problems in mind, the Department of Library & Information Science, Jadavpur University is going to organize a two day ‘National Seminar on Sustainable Library’ during January 24-25, 2020.
