The strings of India’s development have been inseparably attached to the success of its Textiles sector. The industry’s symbiotic relationship with agriculture widens the range of beneficiaries.
- 4.5 crore people are directly employed while another 6 crores are indirectly in this sector with a considerable stake of women and rural population.
- 5% of the global trade in textiles and apparel is to India’s credit.
- India’s centuries-old knowledge and expertise in this sector have positioned it as the world’s 2nd largest manufacturer and exporter with a 12% share in total exports (2018-19).
And now we, at the Textiles Ministry have our sights set on achieving global leader status for India.
