Catch Lawctopus Law School Book Club in discussion with Writer, Photographer and Researcher Suchitra Vijayan on her book ‘Midnight’s Borders’. Register now to catch her live on Zoom.
In the Month of October, the LLS Book Club read Midnights’ Borders. An exemplary non-fiction that captures ‘micro-histories’ of the marginalised trying to navigate borderlands and state violence.
The book is a product of Suchitra’s nuanced research, bringing in themes of citizenship, freedom, state sovereignty and legality. All these themes stem from the moment of the midnight birth of Independent India that was marked by the partition’s violence.
Suchitra also analysis how that violence affected those at the borderlands, years after the end of colonialism. It’s a vital telling of how law and legality present themselves in different forms.
