Call for Papers: Role of Biophysics in Academia & Industry @ Panjab University, Chandigarh [Oct 12-13]: Submit by Sep 30: Expired

bipohysics conference panjab university

About the Conference
During 20th century, biophysicists have made important contributions in the development of Biophysical techniques like X-ray crystallography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Mass Spectrometry, Electron Spin Resonance, Fluorescence, Raman and UV-visible spectroscopies for the study of biomolecules and in the establishment of diagnostic tools viz. Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine (CAT, SPECT, PET), Ultrasound Imaging, Electrocardiography which are already playing noticeable role for mankind.
Despite this, the outreach growth of Biophysics discipline in the Indian Academia is inadequate as compared to other disciplines like Physics, Biology and Chemistry, at the school, college and university level. This might be due to a lack of appreciation by the physical scientists of the biological aspects and the bio-scientists of the physical aspects.
In the 21st century also, Biophysics is continuing to contribute to modern drug discovery (based on molecular modelling and bioinformatics), high throughput structure elucidation with synchrotron based monochromatic X-ray sources (in U.S.A., Japan, Europe), high field (up to 1 GHz) NMR, fluorescence based single molecule imaging and many more.
From India, in this direction, Institutes such as Molecular Biophysics Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru; Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata; Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai; Biophysics Departments of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh, have played pivotal role in the development of the discipline of Biophysics.
Through Indian Biophysical Society, founded in 1965 (http://indianbiophysicalsociety.org/index.html), these institutes have worked in consonance with the International Biophysical Society (http://www.biophysics.org) for the growth of this discipline.
Present conference is being organised with the objective of increasing the outreach of Biophysics in Academia and Industry. The topics to be covered are:

  • Molecular Biophysics (encompassing structure determination using spectroscopy, crystallography, molecular modelling and bioinformatics).
  • Biomedical Imaging
  • Gene and protein engineering
  • Teaching at undergraduate and graduate level (theory and practical).
  • Industrial relevance and collaboration for biophysics.

The students and the faculty from the colleges and universities, scientists working in R&D laboratories who are applying Biophysical tools for research; professionals from Pharmaceutical, Medical Diagnostics and instrumentation, spectroscopic instrumentation; start-ups; Pharmacovigilance and healthcare providers and any other related area are invited to join for presenting their work and develop a network.
