Biotech Skill Enhancement Programme (BiSEP) and Fellowship for Life Science Students by Karnataka Govt.: Apply by Aug 12: Expired

Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society, a registered society with the brand name K-Tech under the Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology is facilitating and promoting the IT and BT sectors in the State by organizing as well as participating in Trade shows, Conferences, Symposia, Seminars held at National and International levels etc.

The Department has decided to continue the program and has renamed Biotechnology Finishing School as Biotechnology Skill Enhancement Programme (BiSEP) and continue providing biotech industry-oriented skill upgrading training to graduates and post-graduate students for 5 (five) more years in selected 18 Institutions across the State with 50% of the seats reserved for students from Karnataka.

The institutes under BiSEP will be offering one year Post Graduate Diploma program divided into two semesters of six months each. The first semester in a chosen host academic institution to get focused hands-on training in one of the sub-domains of Biotechnology.

The second semester is a period of industry internship in a relevant Biotechnology company respectively for direct hands – on experience in an industry set-up. The successful candidates with enhanced knowledge and the required skills should be better prepared to be absorbed by their own internship host companies or similar companies elsewhere.

Applications are invited from interested students across India for admission into post-graduate diploma in specialized areas of biotechnology for each of the academic session. Admissions will be through an online entrance test followed by counseling and seat allotment.

Student Course Fee Support

Government of Karnataka to bear 50% of the maximum course fee fixed at Rs.50,000/- i.e., Rs.25,000/- per student for maximum ten number of resident students of Karnataka allotted to each of the 18 eighteen host institutions.

The amount will be released to BiSEP Host Institutions directly after completing the due admission process and submission of prescribed set of documents by them. This facility is not applicable to students from other States joining the course under BiSEP.

Student Fellow Support

Student Fellowship Support for candidates selected for admission to courses offered under BiSEP of the selected 18 host institutions will be eligible to receive student fellowship at the rate of Rs.10000/- p.m from K -Tech.

In order to receive Rs.10000/- p.m student fellowship amount, the candidate need to put up minimum 75% attendance for that particular month. Candidates who do not have stipulated minimum 75% attendance per month without valid reasons as approved by competent authorities of BiSEP Host Institutes are not eligible to receive Student Fellowship Support for that particular month wherein the shortage of attendance was noted.

Bioinformatics and Big Data Analytics, Biopharmaceutical technology, Cellular and Molecular diagnostics, Clinical Research and Data Management, Fermentation and Bioprocessing, Multi-OMICS Technology, Nutraceuticals and Food Processing, Plant Genetic Engineering and Protein Expression and Scale-up.

Eligibility

M.Sc in Biotech / Microbiology / Biochemistry / Bioinformatics  or any other life sciences related courses

OR

B.E/B.Tech (Biotech / Bioinformatics)

OR

B.Pharma / B.Sc (Agri) / B.VSc or any 4 year degree courses in Life Sciences and Subjects with minimum 50% marks in the qualifying degree examination (40% for students belonging to SC/ST categories)

Selection

Through online entrance test – Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test and counselling.
