Rashtreeya Vidyalaya (RV) College of Engineering, Bangalore is organizing a state level art and design contest called Art Matters ’17 from May 26-28. The contest will include Painting Exhibition and Live Painting Contest, Live Sculpture, Photography, Poster Designing, Short Film/Animation and Product Design Contest.

About R.V.College

R V College of Engineering is a private technical co-educational college located in Bangalore. Established in 1963, RVCE has 11 departments in engineering, one school in architecture, and a Master of Computer Applications department. It is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.

About the Contest

Art Matters is a platform to connect young artists to ideas, inspirations, resources, and also allow exchange of talent. It aims to be a connecting link to interact with celebrated artists, curators, art historians, art critics and other celebrated fraternity of art.

Painting Contest & Exhibition

  • 150 selected paintings shall be exhibited in gallery ambiance.
  • The top 3 paintings will be awarded.
  • For preliminary selection, participants have to send either their scanned or high definition photograph of the painting.
  • Each participant can submit upto 3 works.

Live Sculpture Contest

  • It is based on the participants original and creative expression through sculpture of natural and imagined forms.
  • Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, composition, technical excellence, artistic merit and visual impact.
  • Clay will be provided at the venue.
  • Participants should bring their own tools. Mechanical or electrical tools are not permitted.

Poster Design Contest

  • 50 selected posters shall be exhibited in gallery ambiance.
  • The best poster shall be awarded.
  • Each participant can submit upto 3 posters.


  • Entries will be judged on  creativity, originality, composition, technical excellence, artistic merit and visual impact.
  • Each participant can submit upto 3 images.
  • Digital manipulation that distorts the image will not be allowed.
  • Basic enhancements such as sharpening, contrast adjustments, cropping will be allowed.

Product Design

  • Participants are supposed to do inventions, novelty designs and aesthetic designs that are not in the market.
  • They are required to create a prototype model (working or non working), plan a detailed campaign for the same and make efforts to position the brand and promote it.
  • For preliminary selections, participants are supposed to submit a Product Name, Logo of the Brand, synopsis about the product.

Short Film & Animation

  • The theme is fighting social evils and creating awareness.
  • Duration of the film should not exceed 30 minutes.


  • For paining exhibition and product design contest, the cash prizes are as follows: 1st: Rs. 8,000/-  2nd: Rs. 6,000  3rd: Rs. 4,000/-
  • For live painting, sculpture and short film contest:  1st: Rs. 5,000/-   2nd: Rs. 3,500  3rd: Rs. 2,000/-
  • For photography and poster contest: 1st: Rs. 3,000/-   2nd: 2,000/-   3rd: Rs. 1,000/-

Registration Fee is Rs. 150/- payable at the venue.


  • TA, DA will not be given to students and guides.
  • Accommodation and food will be provided free of cost (only if intimated in advance)
  • Accommodation will be made in hostels,dormitories and halls.
